Brushwood revetments
We have protected the bank from erosion in an environmentally-friendly way
Van Aalsburg has presented its knowledge, craftsmanship, neatness and expertise in Lutterhoofswijk (in the vicinity of Coevorden). A splendid assignment was carried out for Avitec and the Dutch Water Authority Vechtstromen. Van Aalsburg has protected the bank from erosion over a stretch of no less than 6 km.
To achieve this goal, Van Aalsburg B.V. has installed a 6-km long brushwood revetment. A brushwood revetment is one of our most environmentally-friendly options. This type of revetment requires a double row of posts and then we fill up the spaces in between with brushwood. The brushwood is from the Betuwe where we maintain 90 hectares of historical withybeds. In addition, we own 150 hectares of ‘new withybeds’. In short, we have enough brushwood to realise this project.
Van Aalsburg uses its own push boats, pontoons and cranes for this work. We work in two sets. The first set skilfully places the posts. Then it’s the turn of the second set to fill in the brushwood bundles (faggots). We carry out all this work with a great sense of neatness and expertise. The 6-km long bank in Lutterhoofswijk is once again able to withstand the force of the water.
