Recreation island
This unique island will be a true gem in the Langeraarsche Plassen
Van Aalsburg has started a beautiful and unique project in the Langeraarsche Plassen (Langeraar Lakes). The building of a ‘recreation island’. The uniqueness of this island is that it will be made from willow wood. We have started by making a willow ‘legakker’ (a long narrow island).
The legakker consists of a number of willow wood grids of about 3 metres high in sections of 1 x 1 metre. The legakker will then be made in situ from one large grid measuring approximately 90 metres long and 20 metres wide. We will sink the legakker with local silt and sludge at the desired location. This 100% environmentally-friendly legakker will serve as the foundations for the new recreation island. The island will have a beach, paths, playing field and a lookout tower. We will place revetment all around this beautiful island to protect it against erosion. This revetment consists of pole revetments and hard wood revetments. We will build a mooring for the boats of the boating enthusiasts. We are realising the work involved in this project using our own pontoons, push boats, hopper barges and cranes while at the same time taking the utmost care and giving due consideration to this beautiful water-rich area.
