Riverbed and embankment protection
A classic fascine is a mattress made from brushwood (with no woven fabric underneath) with a layer of faggots on top. Fascine mattresses have been made this way for over a hundred years. They were used to protect beds and embankments against erosion caused by water flow. They have also been used in road construction over the past 70 years to prevent road subsidence.
